My 2022 Reading List

Those who know me well will know that reading is something I love and enjoy. I love books and usually have about 4-5 on the go at the same time. Despite my passion for books and reading, I found that I wasn’t actually reading or finishing many books. At the beginning of last year I decided I wanted to make more time for it, so I set myself a goal to finish 50 books in a year!

The result? I didn’t reach 50, but I consumed 26 books (cover to cover), both reading physical books and listening to audios on Audible. I think this is a record number for me. When I took a break from social media (before I actually left for good), I finished 7 books in one month!

In typical fashion, I did start a bunch of other books but didn't actually finish them. Out of the 26, I only read one fiction. The rest were personal development, spiritual or business books. I’d like to change that ratio and bring more fiction into my reading list this year.

As I love a good book recommendation, I thought I'd share the list of books I read last year and the 6 that I enjoyed, couldn't put down and/or benefited from the most. So here we go…

MY FAVOURITES:

The Mountain is You - Brianna Wiest

I wish I'd read this book sooner! It helps to recognise and understand why we hold ourselves back, and change self-sabotaging behaviours. I love Brianna's writing and have since purchased and enjoyed some of her other books. I also recommended this one to some of my clients last year who came to me to strengthen their self-worth.

Untamed - Glennon Doyle

This one was a page turner. I couldn't put it down! Doyle's words reminded me to follow my inner knowing, stop holding back, and be brave to be my fullest self. I went crazy with the highlighter in this one. It's a powerful reminder that when women lose themselves, the world loses its way. This one's a super empowering if you're in need of an inspiring pick-me-up.

Happy Money - Ken Honda

This one was a quick, easy read and it made me happy and grateful. Different to other money books I've read, this one was light-hearted and enjoyable to read. Honda shares his philosophies on money and abundance, and I really enjoyed reading about his somewhat karmic-based approach to real wealth. If you want to improve the way you think and feel about money, I recommend this one.

Mirror Work - Louise Hay

I'm such a fangirl of Louise. All the books I've read by this woman, I've loved, and this one did not disappoint either. It's actually a 21 day program with daily exercises. I read the book and did the exercises each day and felt a big shift in my attitude towards myself. It was really healing for me. If you know you need to treat and speak to yourself better, this one's for you. Note: Don't bother reading this one if you aren't prepared to do the exercises.

The Saint, the Surfer and the CEO - Robin Sharma

Another page turner. This one is a self help book written as a story, which is what I loved about it. It reminded me of both Dan Millman and William Whitecloud's books, which I also love. Sharma takes you on a soul-searching journey to Rome, Hawaii and New York City, while sharing ways to master your mind, open your heart and live your most authentic life. Because of its adventurous story line, I can see myself re-reading this one again in the future. This one's a goodie if you read more fiction than non-fiction.

Atomic Habits - James Clear

I'd seen this one pop up a lot and didn't expect much, but I was pleasantly surprised. I thought it was going to be boring, but listening to the author read it on Audible, I found it enjoyable and easy to listen to. I really liked Clear's approach to creating habits that will support the person who you are wanting to become. I took pages worth of notes. It was super practical and the concepts are easy to apply. I would recommend for those wanting easy and sustainable ways to make positive changes that actually make a difference to their lives.

I'm aiming to finish 50 books again this year, with more fiction thrown in the mix. I'm always looking for juicy recommendations, so I’d love to hear from you. What were your fav books from last year? Send me an email to hello@jaynemartin.com and let me know your all time favs.
